The remix was produced by Shawn Ma$tamind Noel of Trinidad for  for Ma$tamindProductions. Ma$tamind Productions is one of the foremost production houses for Soca and Calypso music. The outfit has produced for the who’s who in the genres from Bunji Garlin to Benjai.
Alison Hinds believes that the Call on Me remix is a hit: “I feel very happy and blessed to be able to work with Cure. His spirit is so nice; he is so humble, down to earth and easy going. His voice is totally unique. When he came to Barbados for Hennessey Artistry on December 5 it was the first time I met him and from there everything just clicked. We decided to do the remix and I know my soca fans will love it.”
The remix is already a favourite on Trinidadian and Barbadian radio stations and is set to be another chart topper for Jah Cure. Jah Cure is excited about the remix and the chance to work with a musical great like Alison Hinds: “It was magic, I met Alison at Hennessy Artistry and we decided to do some music together. The remix is wonderful and is a good start to 2010 and the carnival season”.
Jah Cure also has several new tracks on the airwaves; notably his collaboration with Christopher Ellis and Stephen Marley dubbed End of Time. The Cure is also set to release a highly anticipated collaboration with Grammy nominated R&B superstar Keri Hilson called World Cry.

Rappers Get Major Shine On ‘We Are The World 25 For Haiti’

Rappers Get Major Shine On We Are The World 25 For Haiti

The world premiere of We Are The World 25 will take place during NBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics tomorrow (February 12) at 7:30 PM EST.

“It warmed my heart to see that the experience during the recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago,“ Quincy Jones told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti. Through the contributions of their voices to this new rendition of ‘We Are The World,’ and with the help of our partners, the We Are The World Foundation will be the most transparent not-for-profit foundation ever created.”

Wyclef Jean executive produced the single along with Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie and a host of others, to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.

After the debut, fans can download the song and view exclusive footage at the relief efforts official website, World25.org.

“When I was first approached about recording a new version of We Are The World, I was lukewarm because the first effort was so iconic, then Haiti happened and I realized that this was the kind of crisis for which the song was originally written,” said Richie who wrote the original version with Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones. “The new version takes the copyright to a different place while staying true to the iconic nature of the original,” Richie added.

“What a better way to help rescue our Haitian brothers and sisters in distress, bring a heightened awareness to that country’s plight and needs, and bring some of the world’s greatest talent together. The result speaks for itself so download to donate!”

All proceeds will go to the We Are The World Foundation, a newly created not-for-profit organization founded by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie.

“I am touched by the enthusiasm and support we are seeing from the entertainment community,” said Wyclef Jean. “With the continued efforts of the global community, we increase our chances of successfully bringing Haiti much needed relief; and taking the next step in reconstructing a 21st century Haiti.”

Pres. Obama Loves Hip Hop?

President Obama 240x300 Pres. Obama Loves Hip Hop?

Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album has received its biggest endorsement via President Barack Obama. In a recent interview with BBC One, Jay-Z disclosed that the President loved the LP and was playing it during their recent phone conversation.

“Barack loves Hip-Hop, when I called him he was playing Blueprint in the gym,” he explained. “I’ve been invited to the White House a couple of times. Hopefully we’ll keep him in for 8 years so I’ll have time to get there.”

Obama has been a self-admitted Hip-Hop fan for years, and first met Jay-Z in 2008 as part of his goal to help emcees use their art to spark critical thinking and bridge generational rifts.

Also, the then U.S. senator was hopeful to see Hip-Hop artists as a whole move away from the misogyny and materialistic slant that’s gripped the art form’s mainstream in recent years.

“I’ve met with Jay-Z, I’ve met with Kanye [West]. And I’ve talked to other artists about how potentially to bridge that gap. I think the potential for them to deliver a message of extraordinary power that gets people thinking [is great],”Obama told BET on the special What’s In It For Us? “There are times, even on the artists I’ve named, the artists that I love, that there is a message that’s sometimes degrading to women, uses the N-word a little too frequently. But also something that I’m really concerned about is they’re always talking about material things about how I can get something; more money, more cars.”

Jay-Z acknowledged the Hip-Hop nation’s potential political power, but rejected the notion that artists should tone down their messages. Instead, he insisted that artists have a responsibility to speak on the uncomfortable truths of society, and not relegate their art to propaganda.

“Sometimes there are hard truths in rap, they’re not packaged with pretty ribbons. Sometimes the realities of the situations are harsh and they need to be told,” Jay reasoned to the BBC. “We’re the poets of our generation! Those truths and those honesties need to be told and sometimes that will rub people the wrong way but that don’t mean you don’t tell them. I think when rap is done brilliantly it can inform you of a problem, things that are going on.”

Even as the pro-Obama Hip-Hop songs slowed following the President’s January 2009 inauguration, Jay-Z has remained one of his strongest supporters.

The Brooklyn native spoke favorably of Obama throughout Blueprint 3, including the songs “What We Talkin’ About,” “On to the Next One,” and “Reminder.”

Today (February 19), President Obama will hold a town hall meeting at Nevada’s Henderson high school, followed by speaking engagements at the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
